Many of us wonder whether or not we are suffering from Depression or whether or not we are just having a bad day. The American Psychiatric Association defines Depression as "a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think, and how you act.". When you read that for the first time, it sounds scary. The good news is it's treatable if you take the appropriate steps. At Fairapy, we use various tools and methodologies in Therapy to help you cope with your Depression.

Depression symptoms can vary, dependent on the person, but some of the common symptoms of Depression listed by the American Psychiatric Association are:

  1. Thoughts of death or suicide

  2. Difficulty thinking or making decisions

  3. Feeling worthless or guilty

  4. Increase in meaningless activities

  5. Little to no energy

  6. Sleeping more than usual

  7. Change in appetite

  8. Loss of interest or please in activities once enjoyed

  9. Feeling sad or having a depressed mood

Although intimidating, it is essential to realize that living with Depression can be manageable. Taking the proper medication can work wonders for helping with your Depression, but in many cases, it is not a long-term solution. By meeting with a therapist, we can help you walk through some of the triggers that may be causing your Depression.

At Fairapy, we use Cognitive Therapy to help you manage your thoughts to minimize the impact your Depression has on you. Cognitive Therapy, when used for Depression, enables you to learn to identify negative thinking patterns that can cause you to get into depressive episodes.

Fairapy also uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; we use this form of Therapy to help with Depression that combines the well-established therapy techniques of cognitive and behavioral Therapy. CBT can teach you how to determine your thoughts and response patterns so you can learn new ways in Therapy for your Depression to think and behave in a way that will help your overall happiness.

Although this may seem like a lot of information, these are clinically proven to help your Depression. Are you tired of your Depression controlling your life? Give Therapy a try to conquer your Depression.
